Tamoxifen 20 is a medication effective to treat breast cancer in men and women. It blocks the growth of breast cancer cells. The active ingredient in the medicine is Tamoxifen Citrate. It works by interfering with the effects of estrogen in the breast tissue. It is effective to reduce the chances of breast cancer in a high-risk person. It also works in person with early-stage symptoms. It is effective for a minimum of 5 years and the process will go on for 10 to 15 years. This medication only reduces the risk of breast cancer but it does not eliminate it completely. It also has some severe side effects if not taken properly. Estrogen is a female sex hormone and in some cases, it helps cancer cells to grow.
Your doctor will prescribe how much tamoxifen you need to take. It is a prescription medicine, do not take it without doctor’s advice. It is available in two forms: tablet and liquid form. The dose of the medicine depends upon how you are taking it and in what form. Swallow the medicine as a whole with a glass of water. Do not chew or break the tablet. You can take the medicine prior to meal or after meal.
The dose of medicine is 20mg each day. It should not be increased without your doctor’s consultations. The dose of medicine is set according to your response to the treatment and your medical conditions. Continue with the treatment as long as your doctor tells you to. If you skip your dose try to take it within 12 hours before the next dose. Take it at the same time each day.
Do not stop taking the medicine or reduce your dose without talking to your doctor. Avoid the use of the medicine during pregnancy and breastfeeding. If you notice any pain in your bones or swelling, tell your doctor immediately about that. Keep the medicine away from children. Before starting the treatment, tell your doctor if you have any allergic reactions or you are taking any other medications.
